Birthday buddies

NTT IndyCar Series drivers Marco Andretti and Robert Wickens share a birthday – March 13 – so what better thing to do than celebrate it together. So Andretti, Wickens and loved ones including fellow driver James Hinchcliffe jetted off to the Caribbean following the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg to commemorate the mutual day of their birth.

Andretti has the edge in years, turning 32 to Wickens reaching the big three-oh. Wonder who was better at blowing out the birthday cake candles?

Versatility is his middle name

Simon Pagenaud returned to Team Penske’s Acura sports car program for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts last weekend, but the 2016 NTT IndyCar Series champion did much more than drive.

Always a fan favorite for his friendly nature, Pagenaud made sure to witness how the other half lives at Sebring – including fans and photographers. Thank goodness he had time to drive the car!

Amazon Primed for a boycott

When Will Power ventured to the front porch of his Charlotte home this week, he found a bevy of boxes of goods ordered – he claimed – by wife Liz. The reigning Indy 500 winner and Team Penske driver called it an epidemic sweeping the INDYCAR paddock.

Trading in four wheels for two

With an off weekend between NTT IndyCar Series races, Andretti Autosport’s Zach Veach did what any real racer would do: head to another race. Fortunately, the Monster Energy Supercross series was in Indianapolis and Veach wound up a guest on the NBCSN telecast.

Time sure flies

In many ways, it’s impossible to believe this is Scott Dixon’s 19th season racing Indy cars and the 14th year for Marco Andretti. Former Indy car driver Tomas Scheckter dug into his photo archives and pulled out this wonderful photo of the trio celebrating after a race – though from the looks of it, Marco may not have been old enough to imbibe at the time.

History lesson

Wednesday marked the 110-year anniversary of when the Indianapolis Motor Speedway came into existence, at least on paper, when Carl Fisher, James Allison, Frank Wheeler and Arthur Newby signed the document to form the “Articles of Association” that created IMS.
