Power Rankings: Three New Faces Break In After Road America
8 HOURS AGO
Alex Palou remained tops in the Power Rankings after securing his sixth NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory of the season in Sunday’s XPEL Grand Prix at Road America Presented by AMR.
Kyle Kirkwood qualified third and finished fourth in the No. 27 Siemens Honda to retain second.
Here’s who else joins them in the other eight spots entering The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the all-new 2026 Passport on Sunday, July 6 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
↑10. Kyffin Simpson (No. 8 Ridgeline Lubricants Chip Ganassi Racing Honda; Last Rank: NR)
Simpson is quietly becoming one of the breakout performers at the midway mark of the season. He gained 17 spots to finish sixth Sunday at Road America, earning his second top-six finish in three races. He also surged from 19th to finish fifth in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear on June 1. Between them was a climb from 26th to finish 15th on June 15 at World Wide Technology Raceway.
↑9. Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda; Last Rank: NR)
VeeKay rallied from three penalties to finish 10th at Road America. That was his fourth top-10 finish in the last six races, including two in a row via a seventh-place finish June 15 at World Wide Technology Raceway.
↑8. Felix Rosenqvist (No. 60 SiriusXM Honda; Last Rank: NR)
Rosenqvist gave Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb-Agajanian its best finish outside Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a runner-up result at Road America. That was his sixth top-10 finish of the season, tying Arrow McLaren teammates Pato O’Ward and Christian Lundgaard for the third-most in the series. Rosenqvist gets the nod in Power Rankings over Lundgaard thanks to three top-10 finishes and an average result of 10.6 over the last five races, compared to Lundgaard’s two top-10 finishes and 13.8 average in that same span.
↑7. David Malukas (No. 4 Clarience Technologies Chevrolet; Last Rank: 8)
Malukas is displaying flashes of elite pace in recent weeks, especially in qualifying with a fifth-place average starting position the last four races. However, he’s not converting that speed into consistent top finishes, boasting an 8.75 average result in the same span. Malukas finished runner-up in the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on May 25 and rallied to seventh at Road America after going off course on the opening lap and falling to last despite qualifying seventh.
↑6. Marcus Armstrong (No. 66 SiriusXM/Root Insurance Honda; Last Rank: 9)
Armstrong catapults to sixth following his third consecutive top-10 finish by coming home fifth at Road America. Dating back to the Sonsio Grand Prix on May 10 when Armstrong finished seventh, he has four top-10 finishes in the last five races.
↓5. Pato O’Ward (No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet; Last Rank: 3)
O’Ward hit a rare speed bump in form at Road America, falling from 11th at the start to finishing 17th. His prior run saw five consecutive top-seven finishes, including three of the four races entering Road America on the podium. Next up is Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, a race O’Ward won last season.
↑4. Scott Dixon (No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda; Last Rank: 6)
Dixon was two laps away from victory at Road America but had to pit while leading due to being short on fuel. He still climbed from 25th to finish ninth, his third top-10 finish in the last five races.
↑3. Santino Ferrucci (No. 14 Bommarito Automotive Group; Last Rank: 4)
Ferrucci remains on the wave of momentum, piecing together four consecutive top-five finishes entering Mid-Ohio. He finished fifth in the Indy 500, second on the streets of Detroit, fifth at World Wide Technology Raceway and fifth at Road America. What’s amazing about this is, Ferrucci climbed from starting spots of 15th, 21st, 19th and 18th, respectively, in those races.
↔2. Kyle Kirkwood (No. 27 Siemens Honda; Last Rank: 2)
Kirkwood’s two-race win streak was halted by Palou at Road America, but he has three consecutive top-four finishes and seven top-10 results in nine races this season. He moved to second in points, trailing Palou by 93.
↔1. Alex Palou (No. 10 SOLO Cup Chip Ganassi Racing Honda; Last Rank: 1)
Palou has six wins and a runner-up finish in nine races. After slipping by finishing 25th on the streets of Detroit and eighth at WWTR, Palou rebounded for his 17th career victory and extended his points lead.
