Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
Get to Know the Team
In its fourth decade of existence, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing continues to exemplify performance and professionalism. INDYCAR SERIES racing has been the foundation of the team since 1992, when 1986 Indianapolis 500 champion Bobby Rahal and Carl Hogan formed its first incarnation, Rahal Hogan Racing. Rahal and late-night television icon David Letterman partnered in 1996 to create Team Rahal. The team’s name was formally changed in 2004 to Rahal Letterman Racing to reflect Letterman’s involvement more accurately. Mi-Jack co-owner Michael Lanigan joined as a co-owner in 2010, and the team first competed as Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in 2011.
Over the years, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has fielded a who’s who of INDYCAR SERIES stars, including Bobby Rahal, Bryan Herta, Max Papis, Jimmy Vasser, Michel Jourdain Jr., Kenny Brack, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Vitor Meira, Danica Patrick, Buddy Rice, Scott Sharp, Oriol Servia and Takuma Sato. In 2026, Graham Rahal returns alongside 2024 INDY NXT by Firestone champion Louis Foster and NTT INDYCAR SERIES rookie Mick Schumacher.
Schumacher joins the team after multiple seasons in Formula 1 and WEC. He first tested with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the fall of 2025 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, where his father Michael Schumacher won five times in F1 (2000, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006).
In 2025, the team will compete in its 34th year and aims to add to its 30 INDYCAR SERIES wins – including the 2004 Indy 500 from pole with Buddy Rice and the 2020 Indy 500 with Takuma Sato – its 37 poles, 112 podium finishes and 1992 series championship.
