INDYCAR Officiating Announces Streets of Arlington Post-Race Penalty
1 HOUR AGO
INDYCAR Officiating has announced a post-race penalty for the No. 8 entry of Chip Ganassi Racing following the Sunday, March 15 Java House Grand Prix of Arlington.
During a post-race review of camera footage and data – unavailable during the race – of the Lap 69 incident between cars No. 6, 8, and 18 at the entrance of Turn 14, INDYCAR Officiating determined the incident was a chain-reaction event, which began with contact from the No. 8 into the No. 6. The No. 8 continued under full-course yellow to finish the race in 19th position.
The No. 8 of Chip Ganassi Racing (photo, top) was in violation of:
Rule 9.3.3. Avoidable Contact – The primary responsibility for avoiding contact with a Competitor resides with the overtaking Competitor and the secondary responsibility resides with the Competitor(s) being overtaken. A Competitor who fails to demonstrate their responsibility and initiates a maneuver that results in contact with another Competitor may be penalized.
Car No. 8 has been reordered to the rear of the lead lap and placed in order of the penalties announced for the final lap (car No. 60 ahead of car No. 8). The result is that car No. 60 has now finished 19th in the race, and car No. 8 has finished 20th. Championship entrant and driver points are commensurate to the final and official finishing positions.
